Here Comes Your Pixies World Tour

Man, it’s just been a wave of Pixies news lately, huh!? First Kim Deal up and leaves the band, and then the group releases its first new song in nine years (sans-Deal). And now the rockers have announced the first leg of what they’re calling an “extensive worldwide tour.”

An announcement on the band’s website says that its first tour in nearly two years will give the members “an opportunity to do something they haven’t been able to do in two decades: premiere brand new Pixies songs, the first collection of new material since 1991’s Trompe le Monde.”

With Deal out of the band, who is taking over on bass? When the Pixies put out its new tune “Bagboy” last week, many fans thought Deal was featured on backing vocals. Black Francis apparently logged on to FrankBlack.net forums (via SlicingUpEyeballs.com) to say, “I agree, it does sound a bit like Kim. But it’s my good friend Jeremy Dubs, one of the best people I’ve had the pleasure to know, both socially and professionally.”

But Dubs isn’t going on tour with the guys. The band revealed this week that another Kim – Kim Shattuck – will play bass and provide backing vocals on the upcoming trek. Shattuck’s resume includes playing bass for all-girl Los Angeles rock band The Pandoras and guitar for pop punk band The Muffs.

The band promises that the tour will feature “the most wide-ranging concert set-lists of Pixies music in the band’s career.”

Black Francis says, “Along with everyone’s favorites, we’ll be playing songs that we haven’t played in ages or never played live before. Songs like ‘Brick is Red, ‘Havalina,’ ‘Tony’s Theme.’ and ‘Sad Punk.’ We’ve probably rehearsed some 80 songs, so we’ll be able to change up the set at the last minute if we feel like it. We’re all really looking forward to this tour.”

The first leg of dates features more than 20 gigs throughout Europe.
