Festival regulars Wilco helped set the Texas sun Saturday (10/12) during their hour-long performance for the second weekend of Austin City Limits Music Festival. The final hour of daylight complemented the spot-on performance, which kicked off with the oldie “Misunderstood” and felt more retrospective and sentimental than most, covering more of the back catalog than the most recent work.
Wilco mastermind Jeff Tweedy and the expert band members, particularly badass guitarist Nels Cline, packed a suitable twang to their cover of Doug Sahm’s “Give Back the Key to My Heart,” which featured special guest Richard Bowden on fiddle. The band also landed a stunning rendition of “California Stars,” which was lyrically written by Woody Guthrie and recorded by Tweedy and Billy Bragg for 1998’s “Mermaid Avenue.” Read the rest of the review here.
