Born in Old Town, ME, Patty Griffin is a singer-songwriter and musician and is an accomplished vocalist and plays guitar and piano. She is known for her stripped-down songwriting style in the folk music genre. Her songs have been covered by numerous musicians, including Emmylou Harris, Ellis Paul, Rory Block, Dave Hause, and the Dixie Chicks. In 2007, Griffin received the Artist of the Year award from the Americana Music Association (AMA), and her album Children Running Through won the award for Best Album.

Her 2000 single, “I Hope You Dance” was a major crossover music hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Country Chart and the Top 15 of the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her signature song. Her 2000 album I Hope You Dance used pop music elements instead of traditional country. She has sold over 6 million albums worldwide.
