Billy Joel was born in the Bronx, NY, and at a young age started studying playing the piano after seeing the Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. IN his early career he was part of several bands like The Lost Souls, The Hassles and Attila. In 1973, the great Clive Owen took notice of Joel’s piano skills and signed him to his new label. Later that year they released his debut album, Piano Man. The album contained his most famous single ever, “Piano Man”.
The singles “Just the Way You Are,” “Movin’ Out” and “Only the Good Die Young,” off his The Stranger album put Joel in music superstardom. Over his career he has had a total of 33 Top 40 singles, three of which reached #1. Joel won his first Grammy in 1979 for the single “Just the Way You Are.”
Joel has been married three times and in 2004 married food critic Katie Lee. He has a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, with second wife Christine Brinkley.
