The Pittsburgh Pirates had a disappointing 2017 MLB Season. The Pirates finished 17 games behind the Chicago Cubs in the National League East and missed out on the MLB Playoffs. The Pirates finished the season with a 75-87 record. The Pirates are looking to improve on that record and get back to the MLB Playoffs in the 2018 MLB Season.
The Pittsburgh Pirates were founded in 1881 and are based in Pittsburgh, PA. Often referred to as the “Bucs” or “Buccos” the Pirates play their home games at PNC Park in downtown Pittsburgh.
The Pirates, have won 5 World Series Championships (1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, and 1979) with their first being in 1909 behind the play of all-star Honus Wagner. In the 1960 World Series against the New York Yankees the franchise made history with a game-winning walk-off home run by Bill Mazeroski, the only time that Game 7 of the World Series has ever ended with a home run. Willie Stargell and Roberto Clemente are two more Pittsburgh Pirates icons that have given the Pirates World Series victories through the years.
The Pirates have had their ups and downs through the years but remain a competitive team year after year in the National League Central Division against rivals Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, and Milwaukee Brewers.
