In 1994, the world was introduced to The Lion King the movie. The new movie by Disney, was turned into a stage play featuring music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, and African rhythms by Lebo M and opened in Minneapolis, MN in 1997 at the Orpheum Theatre. A few months later Broadway came calling and it opened at the New Amsterdam Theatre. The musical went on to win several Tony Awards including “Best Musical” in 1998. The play has since moved to the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway in New York and has a travel troop that tours from city to city around the world.
The popular play takes place in “The Pride of Lands of Africa”. The musical features hit songs like “Hakuna Matata” and “Circle of Life” and introduces us to characters such as Zazu, Rafiki, Timon and Pumbaa. The show features live actors and puppets, so this family show will entertain both kids and adults alike.
