Lorde was born in Takapuna, Aukland, New Zealand in 1996. She is the daughter of prize-winning poet, Sonja Yelich, and civil engineer, Vic O’Conno. Her talent surfaced at a very young age and went on to perform in her intermediate school talent show. When the videos surfaced from that performance, she signed with Universal Records for a development deal at only age 12.
In 2012, her debut EP, The Love Club, was released via the internet. Initially released as a free download after around 60,000 downloads her management decided to yank it and relist it for sale.
Lorde gained her international fame from her song “Royals.” When it debuted, “Royals” topped music charts all over the world and won countless awards. The song hits on the lifestyle of the not so rich and famous, while still voicing the dreams of many. Lorde introduced the world to a unique style and different lyrics.
Pure Heroine was released in 2013 to rave reviews. The album features the singles, “Royals,” “Team,” and “Tennis Courts.” Don’t miss the New Zealeader live in concert this year.
