Spring Training is a series of practices and exhibition games preceding the start of the regular season in Major League Baseball. Spring training allows new players to try out for roster and position spots, and gives existing players practice time prior to competitive play. Spring training games attract thousands of baseball fans each year. Because of the warmer climate fans of all ages, spring break students, and locals flock to the ballparks to see their favorite team in action.
Spring training typically starts in mid-February and continues until the first week of April, just before “Opening Day”. Pitchers and catchers report to spring training first because pitchers benefit from a longer training period. A few days later, position players arrive and team practice begins.
