Created by South Park’s Matt Stone and Trey Parker and Avenue Q’s Robert Lopez, The Book of Mormon offers lots of laughs at the expense of everyone. As stated by Roadway.Com, this musical is an “equal opportunity offender.” The show pokes fun at sexuality, religion, race, and poverty, but the overall message and story makes it a laugh-out-loud good time.
The Book of Mormon follows two Mormon missionaries to northern Uganda, where they attempt to convert the locals, who suffer with a violent warlord, famine, and poverty. With naïve and optimistic attitudes, the missionaries face self-doubt, an enraged warlord, and reluctant locals in their efforts of conversion. The play has multiple musical numbers that include the classic Broadway sounds mixed with South Park style humor.
